Job Title: Nursing Education Trainer

Department: Human Resources

Reports To: Vice President of Operations & Staff

Summary:

The Nursing Education Trainer is responsible for developing, delivering, and ensuring compliance in training programs for unlicensed staff who perform services in Medication Administration and other health-related activities within the agency.

Essential Functions: The list that follows is not intended to be comprehensive; it is intended to provide a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities.

Provides initial and ongoing training to staff on medication administration program, CPR, Universal Precautions, and other material as needed.
Delegates nursing tasks to the DSPs, as appropriate based on the DODD Delegated Nursing Roles and Responsibilities and the Ohio Board of Nursing Rules.
Provides feedback and coaching to unlicensed staff on their medication administration skills, knowledge, and compliance.
Ensures agency compliance with the Medication Administration Program requirements.
Maintains accurate and complete records of all training, delegation, supervision, and evaluation activities related to medication administration.
Stays updated on the latest developments and best practices in medication administration, developmental disabilities, and delegated nursing.
Collaborates with other RN Trainers, DODD staff, county board staff, service providers, individuals with developmental disabilities, and their families to ensure quality and safety of medication administration services.
Serves as a consultant to nursing staff when needed.

Ability to successfully complete all agency training requirements.

Minimum Qualifications:

A valid Ohio registered nurse license.
At least two years of experience in providing nursing care to individuals with developmental disabilities.
Certification in DODD Medication Administration Trainer Program.
Knowledge of DODD rules and regulations, Ohio Board of Nursing rules, CDC guidelines, CMS guidance, and other relevant standards related to medication administration and care of individuals.
Ability to teach, delegate, and evaluate unlicensed DSPs medication administration and other health-related tasks.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
Proficiency in using computer applications.
Must pass physical examination, drug/alcohol screening, and criminal background checks.

Environmental Factors/Physical Requirements:

May be exposed to infectious illness.
May be exposed to aggressive residents.
May be subject to repetitive motion such as typing, data entry, and vision to monitor.
May be subject to bending, reaching, kneeling, and lifting up to 50 pounds.
